Where do you find the motivation?

Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:41 pm

Schedule the exam.

Watch a training video.

Talk about and/or teach a topic to someone else.

-Scheduling the exam/lab.
-Buy training material.
-Think about the extra money you'll pull in with your new cert.

Nothing says get off your ass and study like extra money, or wasted money.

Money usually drives it. I've probably increased my salary by 40-50% over the last 3-4 years.

I'm working on completing my bachelors degree and need to work on CCNP as well but haven't made the time for that yet.

You sound live you've got some motivation... so what's the problem?

Unless you were talking about the motivation to study RIP and Frame Relay ;)... then, all I can say is that I know that feeling...

You definitely seem motivated, but I'm with y'all on studying old technologies. That is hard to do.

ETA: Actually studying anything that I'm not very interested in is hard to do. Taking some Web Dev classes right now and it's brutal since I have zero interest in the material.

Just curious, I understand why I'm studying for the CCIE lab, but why are you taking the Web Dev?

Yeah for the bachelors. Counting the 2 classes I'm working on now I've got 12 to go. Can't wait to get this crap out of the way.

I've lost my motivation 9 months ago.. Just.. Bored... Anything more then the CCNA is way above my current job.. I could go wireless but that's about all, my job's really all about MS..

Motivation is hard to find when pay is good and the job is easy.. sad but true..

Careful. Easy can quickly become boring.

Indeed. And doing the same thing for many years doesn't look good on the CV unless you're doing the same thing at the next job

Boring is part of what drove me to the new job. Don't be complacent.

I have these bookmarks , like gns3 vault and other very good blogs kept by people that know their stuff well , and now and then I try to figure out their little labs and I fail. And than I read Cisco's documentation and I fail again. 48h hours later after trying everything I know I fail again. Then I get really drunk and I realize I know jack shit. This is how I get motivated.

Having a nice paycheck and doing the same thing over and over again (in MS mind you) is my nightmare . I WANT TO KNOW IT ALL !!! :)))

I actually get motivated when I learn something new, only then I realise how little I know which makes me feel bad :)
