I, like most tech guys that I've ever met, rock the backpack. I've owned a lot in my life, and I just bought the newest addition to the lineup.

While this one is slightly smaller than the Swiss Gear pack I have been carrying around, it has a lot more compartments that I can stow stuff away in. And to be honest, I think I'm OK with the slightly smaller size as I sometimes just had too much stuff in my old one.

I only got it this morning, so hopefully it's worth the money I paid for it.

Bought it back when I had a motorcycle and needed something that buckled in the front to keep it in place while riding. Little expensive but I like it, and it's very good quality.

The Ogio bag is pretty sweet!! I have a basic $45 Eastpak. I've been wanting a new backpack...

I got so sick of the "laptop backpacks" that never lasted more than 6 months (I'm an ex-grunt- I am VERY demanding of my gear)that I finally said to heck with it and went with a Maxpedition Condor-II.

Laptop backpacks run about $70 a pop, lasted me 6 months, 9 if I stretched it (I was commuting via motorbike at the time)

The Condor-II cost me about $150, IIRC. I've had it for 5 years and it still looks brand new.

I attached some Condor Tactical pouches to it (it has MOLLE webbing on the outer surfaces) to expand/compartmentalize the storage, they've held up well too.

I also tend to carry a Maxpedition Fatboy versapack with my tablet, kindle, etc.

Yeah, I carry a lot of stuff...

Just throw a kitchen sink in there and you'll have everything.

@paadams That's a nice looking bag. If I'd seen that before the Ogio I might have gone that way.

@DieselJeeper I have the same problem. I usually shred backpacks in no time. The first one I had that ever stood up was this one:

I ended up retiring it since it I didn't really ever love it, but I did lug it around for 3 years and there isn't a single frayed thread or ripped seam anywhere on it. This Ogio I got has a limited lifetime warranty on it, so if it starts falling apart you can be sure I'm going to be all over those guys.

The pack I'm retiring now is a swiss gear I got from Costco. Since they always take everything back I'm thinking I'm going to return it (a year or so later) since it is starting to fall apart and has some seams coming apart.

I like that Ogio. The extra sleeve to keep a tablet separate isn't a bad idea either.

I have been looking. I had a North Face that I really loved but the laptop sleeve doesn't cover the top portion of the laptop. I learned this when I spun around into a moving door and heard a loud thud. I still use it for school and my personal laptop though.

I switched to a Swiss Gear bag that is great for keeping my laptop protected and having plenty of pockets to hold necessary patch cables and tools. Not a big fan of it though.

we use these for a varity of reasons. Such as when we run extra drops that no one has payed for yet we put these in the drop (so if it has a red-cap in it we know nothing has been payed for. )

Also in the closet we can disable drops that haven't been active for 180 days (after doing that and pulling out switches we had ~$250k in spare switches) So if there is a red-cap in the closet we know they payed for that drop, but they haven't used it so we used it for something else.

And finally we have a closet that is WAYYY over loaded on POE, and our cable guys kept activating those ports for people in the call center (with POE heavy phones) so we red-cap the access ports. (don't ask me why we keep putting 48 port switches without good POE in call centers I don't know and I can't get them to stop)

As for the etherkiller we have one we share as a department... but we also have a closet up on a mountain that goes though 2-3 switches a year with funny scorch marks on them.

I was going to make a post about my back pack. I have had it about 2 years now and it is still in the same condition as when I bought it. It has been to America, Switzerland, Gibraltar and soon Australia. It is actually a DJ rucksack designed by Brandon Block (DJ). It has a compartment for a laptop, space for pens, passport and other stuff like ID's (passes to get into datacentres). In my pen slots I keep a couple SFP modules. Inside where the laptop goes there is an interior light so that I can find what I am looking for like cables and stuff when I'm stuck in the not so well lit comms room.

There is also space for a DJ mixer, but I keep my Cisco Press reading material in there. There are side pockets which are actually very large. Large enough for a drink, food, or in my case, rack nuts / bolts, screw driver and analogue telephone (the cheap tiny one from Ebay) )

The straps are very very wide, and the carry handle is covered in thick foam.

I forgot to mention that all compartments are padded so no worries about the laptop, router or ASA you're lugging around getting broke. My last Targus bag wasnt padded that way and even though the straps were wide to begin with, they easily squashed and became thin.
