disable/deactivate an interface without "commit" in JUNOS

Sun Oct 02, 2011 2:48 pm

Is it possible to disable/deactivate an interface without "commit" in JUNOS? I usually do:

Code: Select all
set interfaces <name> disable

..or:

Code: Select all
deactivate interfaces <name>

..if interface was previously enabled, but both of those methods require commiting the configuration. On the other hand, there are plenty of "request chassis" commands, which allow turning PIC's offline without commiting the configuration

Not that I know of. I always need to commit.

Why is that a problem though?

No, it's not a problem :) I was just little surprised, that one is able to request PIC's and FPC's offline/online using the request chassis commands without commiting

I don't think it's odd. Shutting an interface down and shutting a module down are completely different things to me.

Sounds lazy :p
There's always commit and-quit...
