I have always delt with full blown NMSs for perminant setup but i am in need of a small and simple snmp tools to graph and monitor a couple 3750 stacks for a temporary basis. Id prefer a linux tool but dont mind setting up on a M$ box. The tool needs to be free. Dont need all the cool features just simple device and interface monitoring/graphing

What tools are you happy with? I am currently looking at MRTG, PRTG and SolarWinds network device monitor.

Thanks for your feedback.

+1 for Cacti too - MRTG works well for a few switches. PRTG can do up to 20 free probes (ie 20 interfaces), but has a nice interface & simple reporting features.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I actually didnt even think about EZcacti. After digging into what server to place this tool on I found a beefed up quad core sitting to the side not being used. So Im going to bit the bullet and stand this up as a perminant monitoring solution for the new network Im building.

Thinking Zenoss since Im very familar with it and setup is simple and quick.

Once again thanks all
