Hi everyone,

My first post here

I need to implement a Mobile IPv6 network for my 4th year project for college and I need a little help. Well, maybe I need a lot, I'm not sure. I'm not looking for someone to spoon feed me here, but I'm quite lost and feeling a little overwhelmed.

Basically I need to show Mobile IPv6 in operation. I don't know if I can do this at home, I have 2 laptops, one XP one Win7 and a desktop XP. In college I have access to cisco routers also.
Could someone suggest a setup/topology I could use?

I have downloaded Oracle VirtualBox and have it booting from an ISO image which I downloaded from here;

http://www.ja.net/development/network-a ... index.html

The read me file, here: http://www.nrsp.lancs.ac.uk/mobileip/ says "Change the configuration settings as required, save and exit the editor"

My supervisor seems to think that this is not a particularly difficult project so is reluctant to help me too much

As I said I really am lost with what to do...any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe as a 4th year honours degree student I should be able to handle this, but I'm feeling pretty swamped

I've recently completed a honours project on IPv6, though not mobile. Is the requirement to have some sort of application running over the network? And presumably you can use the mobile devices' wifi for IP network connection?

More clarification on the specification would be helpful.

Hey

I am using the same image for the same purpose using virtualbox too, all you need is some basic linux skills, and good cpu.

I found tons of internet resources that I will be happy to share.

this guide should get you up and running in no time
http://student.eepis-its.edu/~abe/file/ALL%20SUPPORT%20for%20TA/E-book/Mobile%20IPv6%20Mini%20Howto.pdf

I am working on the exact same project, contact me I am sure we will have some ideas to exchange.

Good Luck

I was testing MIPv6

the whole network was Cisco-based (so Home Agent was running on an IOS device and not on linux)
without authentication it ran fine, thou IOS based HA does not support IPSec authentication for MIPv6, only SPI which is not RFC standardized for MIPv6

apart from that, there were no problems, but due to this critical feature not being implemented I did not test it very long and did my project on MIPv4 instead where everything worked well
